When you have a couple as beautiful on the inside and out as Holly and Stephen, there’s no doubt that their wedding will be just as beautiful! And not because of the decor or the venue or the flowers or the dresses (even though ALL of those things were stunning!) – it’s the special moments and the special people that create a wedding day that will be remembered for a lifetime.
Holly and Stephen became husband and wife at Westgate Baptist Church in Beaumont, which is where Holly grew up. Sidenote: When we met with Holly and Stephen before their wedding, they made sure to tell us about the infamous Crown Pizza in Beaumont, which is Holly’s favorite pizza place. Since Bryan’s love language is pizza, we made sure to get into town early for some pre-wedding fuel, and it did not disappoint! (Y’all – they serve a cheeseburger pizza complete with french fries on top! It was EVERYTHING! But I digress…)
When we pulled into the church, we could see some dark clouds rolling in, but we knew that a little rain wouldn’t put a damper on the day. As we walked into the bridal suite, Holly was calm and cool, feeling nothing but excitement to see her groom. Fun Fact: The room that the girls got ready in was once the church’s main sanctuary before they expanded, and it was in this old sanctuary that Holly’s parents got married 32 years ago! Needless to say, the tears started early for me. (Yes, I cry at every wedding.)
A new wedding tradition that’s been introduced over the years is the “first look”, which is when the bride and groom decide to see each other before their ceremony. Holly and Stephen decided not to do a first look with each other, but Holly did want to do a first look with her dad and her bridesmaids. (You guessed it…more tears!!) Holly’s bridesmaids surprised her by having their favorite picture of them with Holly printed out to show her. How sweet is that??
Even though Holly and Stephen didn’t want to see each other before the ceremony, they did want to pray together. We found a perfect little corner for them to be able to hold hands while still keeping hidden from each other. Stephen gave Holly a letter that he’d written to her when they first started dating. Even though Holly read it in silence, her reaction was enough to once again lead me to tears. At this point, the waterworks had also started outside, so we decided to stay inside for bridal party pictures and utilize the beautiful arbors that Holly’s dad made for the ceremony. (You read that correctly…he made them!)
The ceremony was officiated by the couple’s dear friend and pastor, Jonathan Gray. Holly and Stephen decided to add a special element of braiding a cord of three strands, which symbolizes Ecclesiastes 4:12 that says, “A cord of three strands is not easily torn apart.” While they did this, their friend and worship leader Brett Hystad played “What a Beautiful Name”, one of the couple’s favorite worship songs. It was truly a sweet and powerful moment.
The reception was held in Downtown Beaumont at the The Neches Room. By the time we got there, the rain had stopped and the sun was showing off that beautiful, golden light. It was the perfect time to sneak Holly and Stephen away from the party to take some portraits of them. We found the coolest brick building right across the street and knew it was going to be the perfect backdrop for some gorgeous pictures – and it did not disappoint!
Some of our favorite details from their wedding: the colors! We loved the wine and navy combination. We also loved the wooden arbors that Holly’s dad made for the ceremony. And it was so fun getting to shoot in downtown Beaumont! Also – Holly’s dress! So gorgeous!
